“I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you… If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God… Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.” – John 8:37–47 (KJV)
In John 8, Jesus speaks to people who were certain they were God’s children. They knew Scripture. They practiced religion. They carried the name “Abraham’s descendants.” But Jesus exposed what titles and traditions could not hide:
“My word has no place in you.”
They claimed belief, but His Word had no home in their hearts. They honored God with their lips while their hearts were far from Him.
This is still true today. Many people claim to “believe in God” yet reject the very Word that reveals Him. The Word of God is not a guest in their life—it’s a stranger knocking at the door they never open.
Jesus said,
“If God were your Father, you would love me.”
That statement is the ultimate test. Genuine love for the Father is always proven by love for Jesus—the Living Word. You cannot truly love God while resisting His Son, and you cannot claim to love Jesus while ignoring His commands.
To love Jesus is to make room for His truth. It means letting His voice correct, convict, and shape your decisions. It means surrendering what your flesh desires for what the Spirit demands.
Religion says, “I believe.”
Relationship says, “I obey.”
Jesus drew a dividing line that most would rather blur.
“You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do.”
There are only two spiritual families on earth. Every soul is either ruled by the Spirit of God or led by the lies of the enemy. The evidence is found in our works, not our words.
The devil has no truth in him. He deceives hearts to believe that faith can exist without repentance, that grace can excuse sin, and that belief can replace obedience. But Jesus made it clear—there is no truth in that spirit.
We live in a generation that says, “Me and God are good.”
But what does that mean when their life contradicts everything God’s Word stands for?
People think they can serve God while living lawless. They think grace is permission, not power. They think faith is a feeling, not a life of surrender.
This is the deception of modern faith—religion without repentance, confession without conversion, and emotion without obedience.
The Word of God has already judged this kind of living. His Word is truth, and truth is not up for debate.
The prophet Ezekiel spoke of hearts of stone that refuse to yield. Jesus confronted that same condition in John 8. He said they were stiff-necked, resistant to truth, and blind to their own bondage.
When the Word cannot convict, a heart is already hardened. When truth offends instead of transforms, pride is ruling instead of the Spirit.
But God still offers mercy. He still promises:
“I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26)
That means there’s hope for anyone who will humble themselves and receive His Word.
John 12:48 says,
“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
The Word of God doesn’t wait until Judgment Day to expose sin—it judges us even now. It reveals motives. It separates truth from falsehood. It draws a clear line between light and darkness.
When we resist the Word, we resist life itself. But when we receive it, we are transformed by truth.
Jesus said,
“If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.”
Abraham believed God and obeyed Him even when it cost him everything. He didn’t just call God “Father”; he acted like it.
Real children of Abraham do not live in rebellion—they live in faith. They don’t debate with the Word—they depend on it.
The question Jesus asked then still echoes now:
Does His Word have room in you?
If His Word cannot correct you, you are your own authority.
If His Word cannot confront you, you have made comfort your god.
If His Word cannot change you, then religion has replaced relationship.
Jesus said plainly, “If God were your Father, you would love Me.”
That love shows up in surrender, in repentance, in the desire to please Him above all else.
Let this be a moment of examination.
Does His Word live in you—or does it stand outside, knocking for entry?
Do not mistake belief for obedience. Do not confuse emotion for devotion.
The Word of God is not an accessory to our lives—it is the foundation of life itself.
“He that is of God heareth God’s words.” (John 8:47)
If you hear His voice today, do not harden your heart. Let His Word in. Let His truth reign. Let His Spirit replace the stony heart with one that beats again for righteousness.
